If Chandler Parsons were an infomercial, you'd say he were too great to be true. His three-pointers can punish!A He strikes closeouts! He finishes well at the rim! His defense has ranged from interesting to utterly impressive! He can also dribble-drive! He goes for 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game! And all for the low, low price of only $888,250! Which begs the question: If we buy now, can we get a second Parsons free? We want. Guys like Chandler Bang don't come around very often. But he'll give you another two months at under a million apiece. Yes, it is too good to be true. Although it does work. You're not alone, if you did not place Parsons in college. But be happy Morey did.Kevin C. Cox/Getty Photos When he was chosen by the Houston Rockets because the 38th overall pick in 2011 I declare, I'd barely heard about Parsons. It was only because I was rooting for Cinderella group UCSB, a seed, that I watched Parsons gather seven, 10 assists and 10 factors rebounds. Turns out the real Cinderella was Parsons. We all knowa'or perceivea'that Rockets coach Kevin McHale doesn't look favorably upon rookies. Yet somehow Parsons enjoyed in 63 of his team's 66 gamesa'and started 57 of these. He averaged 12 and six per 36 minutes on his solution to making the All-Rookie second group, finishing with 10 first-place votes. Mighty extraordinary for a second-rounder. And do not forget that Parsons was the only real starter the Rockets felt strongly enough planning to hold. That was not a Baxter decision; Parsons earned that consideration. Parsons completing strong.USA TODAY Sports He's honored the Rockets' belief immeasurably. If last year was Cinderella's coming-out ball, this year has been the stuff fairy tales have been made of. Because in the event that you call Parsons one of many league's most useful little forwards, the shoe fits. He has increased offensively in most area of his sport. This season, Parsons goes for 15.1 per 36 minutes, with somewhat less boards (5.4 versus last year's 6.0), but that's simply caused by increased time spent on the perimetera'and, correctly, it's more regularly time above the break than on the wings. Parsons is making the most of that time: After reaching 33.7 percent of his long-range attempts last year, he's drawing 38.6 this year, and has changed into a good pick-and-pop tool, a main reason he is the team's second-leading scorer. That's to state nothing of his passing skills, which are above average for his place. This is from a preseason scrimmage, but watch how smooth Parsons is on this behind-the-back move. I never get tired of watching it. Watch Parsons' pass at :07. Then view it again...and again... Parsons isn't at the amount of LeBron James, Kevin Durant or Carmelo Anthony, but he is just a couple of steps down, nearby the likes of Kawhi Leonard and Rudy Gay. And I'd take Parsons over either of the people, because I like watching his enthusiastic game better. Parsons to me was more impressive last year, on security. That's not to imply this season has been a failure in any way. But I am sometimes reminded by him of a ball hawk cornerback, gambling on finding a steal in place of playing the conventional rates. Parsons makes Durant work for his points.Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports Said please, as a ball hawk, Parsons is similar to an Alphonso Smith than a Dick LeBeau. Quite simply, he gets burned more frequently than he should. (Incidentally, that's not a knock on Smith, who has to have more consistent, but who can be a gorgeous game-changer. An NFL staff definitely has to give him as a full-time starter.) an opportunity The place being, Parsons needs to play defense like the Rockets' carefully designed offense: by the percentages. It's simple physics: The closer you're to the person you're guarding, the more difficult he will be to pass to. Hence, Parsons would do well to follow Tammy Wynette's advice and the stand by position his man more often. So, if I were a coach, protection is when working with Parsons where I'd put the majority of my focus. But that's nit-picky, all in all, and Parsons has acquitted himself well against some difficult matchups, specifically Kevin Durant. Let us make contact with how important he is, and may be. Parsons recently mentioned how special it had been for him to perform in the Amway Center, because he spent my youth an Orlando Magic lover. Get those pluses and aspect in his commitment, and I believe Parsons becomes the cost effective player in the NBA. That assessment can't be proven by me, but I can give you this reason. Frequently whenever you hear or read about value deals in the NBA, names like Rajon Rondo, Tim Duncan and Joakim Noah get bandied about. These are folks who make $12 million or even more per year. Beliefs in the $5-$6 million each year range are backups like Mo Williams, good but unheralded people like Jarrett Jack, or beginners who are both very quiet like Mike Conley or other second-round pick Paul Millsap, or have issues like Kyle Lowry. Parsons is scoring at about the same cut while the best of that 2nd list of playersabut he's making significantly less than $1 million on his rookie offer. Parsons' modern play is really a pleasure to watch.Scott Halleran/Getty Images When you really stop to think about it, it is significantly amazing in today's NBA that a guy with such prodigious creation is such a deal. Since with Parsons offering the Rockets both income and production freedom, they will all be carrying bands quickly.
