The Syracuse zone defense stifled and frustrated a really skilled Indiana group. It completely shut down Big East rival Marquette in the Elite Eight. However now the Orange and their zone may confront probably the most difficult activity yeta'slowing down Trey Burke and his gifted Michigan teammates. And I do believe Syracuse will come up short this time around. While Michigan will probably struggle when it tries to get to the side, and tournament starAMitchAMcGary is going to be swarmed in the color, the Wolverines have the outside photographers to grow the Syracuse zone. The game should go something such as thisa'Burke penetrates to the center of key and kicks the ball out to a teammate. Said teammate drains a three. Syracuse grows its region. Burke takes the ball to the stand and both finishes or sets it off toAMcGary for a simple bucket. Its zone is condensed by syracuse. Rinse and repeat. Okay, ok, therefore it will not be that simple. But Michigan gets the shooters from outside to give Syracuse dilemmas. Mary Pennington/Getty Images Against Florida, a ridiculous 46.2 percent was shot by Michigan from the subject and a far more ridiculous 52.6 percent from three (10-of-19 ).ANikAStauskas went down, scoring 22 points on 6-for-6 firing from beyond the arc. Burke added eight boards, 15 items and eight assists. And don't forget about Tim Hardaway Jr., who's shooting 38.7 per cent from downtown this season. In four event activities, Michigan is shooting 41.9 % (34-for-81 )Afrom three. Bombs away! And it is much less although the Wolverines proficiency on the offensive finish is newa'according to KenPom.com, Michigan has the nation's most effective crime this year. Clearly, Michigan will need to strain its shotsa'Syracuse is a great rebounding staff and won't quit many second-chance things. And if Michigan comes to the structure Indiana found itself ina'driving the ring and getting pictures declined instead of throwing the ball back out to its shootersa'Michigan is in trouble. Get McNamee/Getty Photos The Syracuse zone has been ferocious, requiring turnovers, scoring on the break and definitely buying the color. Nothing will come simple for Michigan; that much is definite. The Orange have the athleticism and length to close out on those three-point shots and at the very least match the looks Michigan produces. Usually in a matchup between strengths, I part with protection. However in this matchup, I just feel Michigan is tailor-made to defeat the 2-3 area. It must be a heck of a competition, but in the end, Burke and business could have an excessive amount of firepower for the Orange.
