Not many would have expected Tony Pulis' hard-hitting side to be in the middle of a relegation scrap, however sitting just 15th with 34 points, the Potters are in trouble.
Pulis' side have hit a plateau of some sorts and they have been unable to build on their initial success. Their spending in the transfer market hasn't had any notable changes in the fortunes of the club. Their most recent defeat at home to Aston Villa has put them right in the midst of the relegation scrap.
Here we look at the Potters' remaining fixtures and reasons why they will and will not maintain their Premier League status.
They have a solid defence for large parts of the season and have one of the better home records in the league. The Britannia Stadium has been a fortress for the club, which holds them in good stead over the coming few weeks.
Stoke's last few performances have been poor and nobody in the squad seems capable of getting them the goals that they need for the results to go their way.
The players seem to be comfortable in their mediocrity which can come back and haunt them if they are in the thick of things come the end of the season.
