Schoolboy, 15, arrested after racist attack on Newcastle United - ChronicleLive

The 15-year-old is alleged to have left an abusive message referring to "*******" at the club being involved in criminal acts.

The account at the centre of the case also made reference to its user being "semi racist" and used a hashtag with another obscene racial message.

Its content was spotted by a member of the Magpies staff who tipped off police. Detectives from Hertfordshire then worked to trace the account.

In a statement, police confirmed they were investigating an allegation that a racially offensive message was posted on a social networking website earlier this month. "A 15-year-old male from London has been arrested and questioned in connection with an offence under Section 19 of the Public Order Act," said a Hertfordshire police spokesman.

Newcastle United said they had alerted police due to the content of the tweet. Their spokesman added: "We have consistently said that we will adopt a zero tolerance approach to racism and work with police to identify those responsible for such abhorrent remarks.

It is the latest in a series of racist attacks aimed at United players on Twitter. Papiss Cisse, Danny Simpson, James Perch and Sammy Ameobi have all been targeted in recent months.
