Ciaran Clark could return to contention for tomorrow's home clash against Fulham after missing two games through injury.

Clark returned to training yesterday for the first time since reporting back from Republic of Ireland duty with a shoulder injury a fortnight ago.

Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker have been in central defence during Clark's absence for the defeat to Liverpool and the win at Stoke.

Clark made his first-team debut in a Villa Park victory over the Cottagers in August 2009 and has now made 73 starts and six substitutes appearances for the claret and blues, scoring seven goals.

Manager Paul Lambert says Villa's medics will check on the 23-year-old defender's fitness after training today to ascertain whether he can join the matchday squad tomorrow.

Despite a couple of unnamed players nursing slight niggles, Lambert is expected to stick closely to the team that made it three wins out of four with the vital victory at Stoke.

"There's one or two little things we'll look at, but mostly everybody's okay. The lads are doing great, they're playing well at the minute."
