NFL Draft Preview: Denver Broncos

Early Rounds: CB Desmond Trufant (Washington); RB Eddie Lacy (Alabama); DE Datone Jones (UCLA); DT Jesse Williams (Alabama); DE Sam Montgomery (LSU); WR Quinton Patton (Louisiana Tech)

Middle Rounds: RB Le'Veon Bell (Michigan State); LB Sean Porter (Texas A&M); QB Zac Dysert (Miami OH); CB Logan Ryan (Rutgers); S Bacarri Rambo (Georgia)

Late Rounds: OLB Jarrell Childs (Kansas State); CB Freddy Young (New Mexico); CB Jamar Taylor (Boise State); DE Malliciah Goodman (Clemson)

When the Denver Broncos are on the clock, it will be one of their six draft choices. The Broncos were a favorite to take the AFC by storm last season but were stopped by the Baltimore Ravens. In 2013, the Broncos will be expected to get over the hump and find their way to a Super Bowl, but they have some pieces to fill first.

The consensus pick for the Denver Broncos is Washington's cornerback Desmond Trufant. I personally disagree with them selecting a cornerback in the first round. Desmond Trufant is a four year starter with good experience coming into the league. He has two older brothers already in the league (Marcus and Isaiah). In college, he was a shutdown cornerback. Quarterbacks would tend to stay away from Trufant, resulting in just one interception in 2012. He needs to work on hip flexibility and technique to be better at the next level. I feel the Broncos have good depth at corner and will not address this until maybe later in the draft.

I feel defensive tackle is a more exceptional pick for the Broncos in the first round. Alabama's Jesse Williams would make sense at 28. Helped Alabama become the best scoring defense in the nation in 2012. A way better run stopper than pass rusher. Maybe not a three-down player. LSU's Sam Montgomery could also draw some interest.

The Broncos held a workout with Michigan State running back, Le'Veon Bell. Running back is a real team need right now for the Broncos as production from their core is slowing down. With the addition of Wes Welker in free agency, the Broncos could be looking to add one more receiver. Look at a prospect like Quinton Patton from Louisiana Tech who shows good ball skills and would make plays with a receiving core like the Broncos have.

Denver have several options at 28, but I will be shocked to see them draft a cornerback with they already have at the position. Desmond Trufant is a true talent, but I feel it makes more sense to go else where right there. Maybe even a trade?
