What Does Doug Free's Restructured Contract Mean for the Dallas Cowboys?

The Cowboys have redone a boatload of deals this offseason in an effort to free up cap space. The latest came on Thursday, when Dallas re-worked the contract of veteran offensive lineman Doug Free.

As Todd Archer of ESPN reports, Free, who was the NFL's highest-paid right tackle at around $8 million a season, took a 50 percent pay cut to remain with the team.

Free, who would have made $7 million in 2013 and counted for just over $10 million against the salary cap, will now make $3.5 million, although that amount is now fully guaranteed.

After playing well in 2010, the Cowboys rewarded Free with a four-year, $32 million extension that included $17 million in guarantees.

Since then, Free has done very little to justify all that money. In 2011, Free ranked 44th among all offensive tackles according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). That precipitated a move to right tackle last year.

By the end of the season, Free was platooning with Jermey Parnell. The Cowboys explored other options in the offseason, including free agents Tyson Clabo and Eric Winston, but they've maintained all along that they were interested in bringing Free back.

What it does do is "free" up over $3 million in cap space for a Dallas team that's perpetually playing musical contracts as it tries to make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

That would make quite a bit of sense. Lee has battled injuries, but he's also shown the ability to be a difference-maker on defense, topping 100 tackles in 2011 and forcing an average of three turnovers a year over the past three seasons.

Veteran safety Charles Woodson is still looking for work after visiting the Denver Broncos this week. The Cowboys' present options at safety are hardly world-beaters, and Dallas would more or less fit Wooson's preference of playing for a contender.

Additionally, the Cowboys are precariously thin at running back behind DeMarco Murray, who has had his fair share of issues with staying healthy. There are a number of free agents still available at the position, from Ahmad Bradshaw to some less appealing options such as Michael Turner, Beanie Wells and Cedric Benson.

It may not be the most exciting list of names, but any of those backs could at the very least serve as a more proven insurance policy against a Murray injury.

Granted, there's no guarantee that the Cowboys will use the cap space in any of these ways. However, it's a pretty safe bet that they'll use it. Jerry Jones isn't exactly known for sitting on his hands.

The final word on this restructuring likely won't come down until we see if Free can recapture past form. However, even if he can't, the Cowboys have lessened the sting of cutting him. And if he does, $3.5 million a year is a steal for a starting tackle.

Turn that savings into another player who can help the team, or an extension for Lee, and a good day for the Cowboys will become even better.

NFL Draft As well as begin Of League Year May very well be Pushed Back To May.

If you believe Adam Schefter from ESPN, the word is the NFL would possibly not have the annual NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE Draft until MAY coming up soon.

NFL and NFLPA can be on verge of pushing back draft to May and upgrading start of league 12 months to before combine, each and every sources.

As so you see from the tweet, Schefter says the draft will be in May, and then the start of the league year might possibly be pushed back as certainly.

It will be fascinating how teams do their pre-draft visits if the tweet comes through, and how much time they make an effort to spend with a specific player seeing that there's more time as such.

NCAA Lacrosse: Cornell Advances to Final 4; Emits by Ohio State 16-6.

The No. 3 seed Ohio Express Buckeyes got all they may handle and more inside quarterfinal round today. The Cornell Big Red used an immense first half on your offensive end to strike out OSU 16-6.

Cornell took the lead early instead of let up. The Big Red could maintain possession throughout the primary half and had the ability to limit the production of the Buckeye offense. Cornell took an 11-3 lead in the locker room at halftime rather than looked back.

Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Deceive Pannell was tremendous with attack for Cornell, while his roommate Steve Mock had a profession high seven goals inside win. Pannell finished with eight points, leaving him just six shy for the single-season NCAA record as he heads to your semifinal round. His two goals along with six assists today certainly made a statement as he looks taking home the player with the year award this 365 days.

Ohio State really struggled throughout the contest, and its inability to make defensive stops became the difference. The Buckeye defense gave Steve Mock a lot of room near the crease, and was unable so that you can pack it in small and let its goalie attempt to stop shots from additionally out. Goaltending was a difficulty for OSU, but the Cornell assailants were taking quality golf shots from close quarters each time down the field.

Cornell could score at will, nonetheless Big Red's defense was just as impressive. Ohio State scored 16 goals just this morning in the first circular, but was held to help you just five by Cornell nowadays. The Cornell defense ended up being aggressive, and was quick to help slide and double-team many of the Buckeye's better players.

This game was a yawner to start the quarterfinal round. My partner and i thought Cornell would earn, but certainly not by 10 goals. Cornell was relentless today, and is playing its best lacrosse at the right time. With Pannell and additionally Mock running on all cylinders, it will be very difficult to defeat the Big Red in this year's tournament.

Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Course Review

Shepherd's Hollow is on the short list of Southeastern Michigan courses that can legitimately claim to have the fabled "Up North" feel (Moose Ridge is another). With 27 holes carved through 400 acres of hilly forest, the course offers a temporary retreat from the industrious world.

And a retreat is exactly what Shepherd's Hollow is. The property on which the course sits is leased from Colombiere Center, which serves as a retreat for the Detroit Province of the Jesuits.

Shepherd's Hollow is a long, difficult course. From the back (black) tees, it stretches to 7,236 and plays to a 76/137. The middle (blue) tees measure 6,518 and play to a 72/137. The more reasonable tees for the bogey golfer are the whites at 6,068, playing at 70.1/131.

Most of the holes at Shepherd's Hollow are lined by trees, creating one isolated island of fairway and green after another. The fairways are rolling and elevation changes frequent. The course offers 160 feet in elevation changes and contains one of the highest points in Oakland County. Fairway and greenside bunkers spread liberally about the course offer additional challenges.

I would not, however, consider Shepherd's Hollow particularly "tight." There is plenty of room on the holes, so long as you are not a wild sprayer of tee shots. The real test is often in how well you hit your second shots off an uneven lie, or in how well you judge club changes on elevation changes.

The Arthur Hills design, which opened in 2000, apparently was executed without moving a lot of dirt. That's a luxury architects have when there is a lot of land available. Instead of building holes, they can "find" them.

Shepherd's Hollow has drawn a lot of raves since it opened. Golf Digest ranks it as the 42nd best public course in the nation. In 2002, Crane's Detroit Business ranked it as the best in the five county Metro Detroit area.

Conditions on the day I played were very good, but that was in mid October, when the air was cool and the course was not getting much play. I have heard reports that it can get a bit beat up in the summer. On the other hand, a friend who plays this on a regular basis has nothing but good things to say about how well the course is maintained.

Shepherd's Hollow is on the expensive side for the area, with greens fees at $68 during prime week hours and $80 for prime weekend hours and holidays.

I very much enjoyed my round at Shepherd's Hollow. It's not a place I could afford to play on a regular basis, but it is on my short list of places to go back to.

Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid: Score, Grades and Post-Match Reaction

Atletico Madrid won a wild Copa del Rey final on Friday, beating arch rival Real Madrid for the first time in 14 years, 2-1 in extra time to capture the title.

The championship victory marks the first time Atletico have won the Copa del Rey since 1996. Diego Simeone's squad struggled mightily at times, but was able to overcome an early 1-0 deficit to stun Real inside their home stadium at the Bernabeu.

It didn't take long at all for the best player on the pitch to show up, as Real's Cristiano Ronaldo put Los Blancos ahead with a beautiful 14th-minute header:

Diego Costa delivered the equalizer for Atletico in the 35th minute, capitalizing on a brilliant ball played in by Radamel Falcao to beat Diego Lopez just inside the right post:

In the second half, Real created tons of chances early but were unlucky not to move ahead. In addition to a number of solid Real chances, the second 45 minutes also featured tons of yellow cards:

Five players were booked within the first 30 minutes of the second half as the refereeing started to get incredibly inconsistent.

Then, after arguing a call with an official late in the match, Real boss Jose Mourinho was sent from the dugout and forced to leave his squad to fend for itself:

Atletico would seize momentum after Mourinho was sent off, creating numerous scoring chances off of set pieces late in stoppage time. Real's defense wouldn't budge, though, as the referee blew the whistle, signalling there would be extra time.

In the 95th minute, Costa would get behind the Real defense but shoot the ball directly at Diego Lopez, squandering a wonderful chance to put Atletico ahead.

Four minutes later, though, Atletico defender Miranda would head home a cross from Koke, putting Los Rojiblancos ahead 2-1 in extra time:

In the 109th minute, it looked as if Real would level the match, but Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save on Mesut Ozil's shot attempt from inside the box, denying the home team a sure goal:

Ronaldo showed why he is arguably the best player on the planet with his 14th-minute header, but then things went downhill.

The world-class midfielder probably should have scored another on Friday and didn't get a ton of help from his teammates either. Still, you can't get yourself kicked off the pitch when your team is down a goal late in the match.

Give Costa tons of credit for turning Falcao's well-played ball in for the match-tying goal. It was the best chance Atletico had on Friday, and if he doesn't put it away Simeone's squad likely loses in regulation instead of pulling off an unthinkable upset.

Lopez could have been much better on Friday. Although he didn't get a ton of help from his attack, he could have done more with Costa's 35th-minute strike.

Given how weak Atletico's attack was for the majority of the first 90 minutes, if he had stopped that, perhaps Real would have gone on to win their second Copa del Rey in three years instead.

Falcao played a crucial role in Costa's equalizing goal, assisting on the equalizer even though he flew under the radar for the most part on Friday.

Still, he was key for Los Rojiblancos during the few times they applied pressure on Real. His presence at the top of Simeone's lineup no doubt played a huge role in Miranda's match-winning goal in extra time as well.

Ronaldo and Real Madrid will get some time off after Friday's Copa del Rey final defeat to rest up in anticipation for their May 26 showdown with Real Sociedad in their second-to-last La Liga match of the season.

Atletico Madrid will also have more than a week to recover from Friday's grueling final win, next playing host to Mallorca in a La Liga tilt scheduled for Sunday, May 26.

Neither side can catch league-leading Barcelona, but both have already clinched UEFA Champions League berths for next year.

Your 7 Best and Worst Moves of Nyc Giants' 2013 Offseason.

Not alone did the Giants not necessarily release Corey Webster, but they also failed to address the cornerback spot inside the NFL draft.

Although Webster do restructure his deal, Big apple is thin at corner, with Terrell Thomas coming off a third ACL surgery treatment and Prince Amukamara having difficulty staying on the niche. When healthy, Thomas in addition to Amukamara are solid factors, but it seems of the fact that Giants are plagued using a rash of injuries at their secondary each season.

Bolstering the cornerback position seemed like a must in your draft, and while the G-Men did address other needs similar to the offensive and defensive traces, ignoring the corner spot could return to haunt the Giants in case the injury bug bites around 2013.

It Seems as if David Beckham Is Ever coming back To The MLS To get started A Franchise In Brooklyn.

As soon as David Beckham signed his first soccer contract, that MLS didn't even really exist. Cut to twenty yrs later, Beckham has finally retired and also the U. S. has a thriving Division 1 league thanks partly to his stint in Are generally.

According so that you can Fox Sports, Beckham's contract together with the Galaxy included the choice to start an expansion business — because "that excites everyone, " he said in '09. "I have the option of having a franchise, " he added. "It will happen subsequently. "

It only is just common sense. Giving the Red Bulls some competition will lead them to double their efforts at fielding a superb squad, as well as divide the town in a Mets/Yankees version of setting. That kind of issue gets people talking shit and increases their a higher standard emotional investment in this MLS. Baddabing!

With plans to increase another New York team already inside works, it's a damn nearby sure thing Beckham can be involved (likely to that tune of $25M much like his contractual stipulations relating to franchise ownership). Rumor has it that Man City owner, Sheikh Mansour, may be the real money behind a operation. Couple that together with the recent success of the Brooklyn Nets proceed to the borough, as well as borough President Marty Markowitz's attempts to help beat out Queens inside the race for a pro soccer team, and it's not high of a stretch to envision Beckham doing his best Jay-Z impression for the reason that face of a franchise there.

Dwight Freeney Apparently Reaches Agreement on 2-Year Contend with Chargers.

Previous Indianapolis Colts defensive stop Dwight Freeney has reportedly allowed us a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers, as reported by NFL. com's Ian Rapoport.

Freeney, drafted from the Colts No. 11 overall inside 2002 NFL draft, solidified the defensive nucleus with the Colts teams of the last decade.

He went to help seven Pro Bowls, was selected on the NFL's All-Pro first power team on three occasions (2004, 2005, 2009) together with set the franchise record in sacks (107. 5) while playing with Indianapolis throughout the last 11 seasons.

The 6'1", 268-pound defender expressed his desire to stay with the power team but said he realizes that the nature of the bosses might not make this possible.

The Chargers scooped the dog up after his most unfortunate statistical performance of her career. He was a member of the old safeguard in Indy, the team that was built by the now-departed Costs Polian.

The writing was relating to the wall for 33-year-old as soon as Colts transitioned to the 3-4 defense over the 2012 offseason. Freeney spent the pioneer 10 years of his career aligned as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme and is more suited for this role.

A lot was apparent by her diminished role last time of year. His attempted transition to help you outside linebacker didn't pot out, and he struggled dropping in coverage when not flowing the passer. He even now racked up five carriers in his limited possibilities, but he was nowhere near to the dominant force of many years past.

The Chargers present a helpful opportunity for Freeney to find back into his groove inside twilight of his job. They're hoping the aging pass-rusher can regain your partner's double-digit sack form inside 2013, but it's still just a short-term deal.

Freeney will get a chance to square off of against his old company on Monday Night Football in North park on Oct. 14 this season.

Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry and Young Stars Ensure Bright Future

The Golden State Warriors' season came to an abrupt halt Thursday night, falling 94-82 to the San Antonio Spurs in a win-or-stay-home situation. Despite all the makings of a possible storybook ending, the Cinderella story came to an end at the hands of a team that was just not interested in allowing a happy finish.

There is no shame in losing to the Spurs. For over a decade, a date with the Spurs in the postseason has spelt doom for a great number of teams. It was no different with these Warriors. The buzz saw that San Antonio simply added another prize to its trophy case.

Unfortunately for these Spurs, the Warriors are primed for redemption next season. Actually, they're primed for the foreseeable future.

With their core three—Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes—all 25 years old or younger, this postseason was merely a precursor of what may be to come. They gave the Spurs all they could handle in their first-ever playoff series. With another year of experience under their belts, it is only fair to assume that far bigger things are in store.

When healthy, the Warriors boast one of the most formidable starting fives in the NBA, led by newly christened superstar Curry and his frontcourt mate David Lee.

Sweet shooting from Curry and Thompson. Elite athleticism from Barnes. A big-man duo in Lee and Andrew Bogut that complements each player perfectly—one offensive-minded while the other possesses elite rebounding and defensive ability.

This postseason, the Warriors were the victims of circumstance. For all of the talk Kevin Durant got about losing his sidekick Russell Westbrook, not a big deal was made when Curry's went down.

Lee going down was supposed to signal instant defeat. Instead, it marked the coming of age for an extremely young team. A young team with much room for improvement.

The priority during the offseason obviously must be to ensure that Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry remain a part of the team. Their contributions off the bench ensured that the drop-off between starters and reserves is minimal.

With Draymond Green and Festus Ezeli rounding out the rotation, the Warriors have become one of the deepest teams in the league. It is that depth that Mark Jackson must learn to utilize.

If Jackson can keep his core fresh throughout the regular season, he can unleash them full force during the postseason. There should be no excuse for tired legs during the next campaign. There are simply too many quality players.

The challenge for next season will be making sure they meet the undoubtedly high expectations they have now created for themselves. With a young squad that can only improve (barring a Tyreke Evans-type self-combustion), it is rather safe to assume they will do just that.

Liverpool's Perfect and Worst Signings with the 2012-2013 Season.

Philippe Coutinho obtained a 25-yard cracker, Jordon Ibe made his first-team debut and Liverpool dominated in a 1-0 home victory across relegated QPR.

Even if Jamie Carragher hadn't announced his retirement, Sunday's win at Anfield appeared like a perfect match to end a season whose theme is actually transition and progress.

But precisely as it happened, Sunday was Carragher's 737th in addition to final match for Liverpool, adding a touch of symbolism to your season's final Premier League game as being the old made way for the new.

An important summer season awaits—and, if recent reports have to be believed, an exciting send window too. But before transfer season starts around earnest on July 1, let's check it out back on the most effective and worst signings in the season gone by.

Following on from the infamous wasted spending this blighted Kenny Dalglish's second reign at Anfield, Sahin appeared to present a new period of transfers: young (23 yrs old), talented (he won the Bundesliga Player in the Season in 2011, aged just 22) obese experience at two top European clubs, he appeared to represent a new generation of Liverpool players, even though he had only linked on loan.

And the idea started well, too. By the end of September, he notched three goals and three assists in the Red shirt, and he was already being associated with a permanent move to Anfield at the end of the season, as per ESPNFC.

Soon, however, Sahin lost his put in place Brendan Rodgers' side. Your deep-lying playmaker by commerce, he was often played inside No. 10 role at the rear of the strikers, a position that she didn't enjoy and didn't prefer to play in, as reported from the Guardian. The relationship between gamer and coach soon soured to the extent that the loan deal was terminated too rapidly.

By then, the previously ignored financial ingredient of the loan deal resurfaced: Based on Goal. com, Liverpool paid a £5 thousand thousand loan fee and promised to protect Sahin's yearly salary. Even providing with the premature termination, which might well have saved the Reds because of his second half-year rely on (around £1. 1 million), Sahin found themselves costing a princely £6. 1 million to play for a half a season.

Even in comparison to the oft-injured and pricey Fabio Borini as well as the spectacularly faded Joe Allen, both of whom hold long-term plans at Anfield, that's poor.

Before we discuss our main man, let's first pay tribute for the good work that was done within the January transfer window, when the new scouting team, new from Manchester City, first got their an opportunity to flex their muscles.

Daniel Sturridge has have scored 10 Premier League ambitions in 11 starts and in truth, was neck-and-neck in a admittedly two-horse race to get named Liverpool's best signing of the season.

Before Philippe Coutinho first moved onto the Anfield grass, the question was why Liverpool might like to sign an overhyped child that Internazionale were willing to let go for this low fee.

After he twisted and turned many a Premier League defence inside out, scoring three league goals during this process and becoming Liverpool's joint-second-highest assister (five) to your season, the question became so why Inter even considered selling him at all.

It's been a ten years since Liverpool last had an exciting No. 10—Luis Garcia applied it until 2007, when it was eventually taken over by Andriy Voronin together with Joe Cole—but in Coutinho, the Reds might have another gem to raise the list.

Mazy dribbles, potent shots, mouthwatering through-balls, excellent work rate. With all these qualities to his sport, watch out for this 2013-2014 season, when Philippe Coutinho could announce himself as a Premier League force within a Liverpool shirt.

5 Radical Predictions for the Remainder of the Mariners' Season

With the addition of Chase Headley to the Mariners lineup, and late-season call-ups of James Paxton and Taijuan Walker, the Mariners will catch fire in the month of September and grab one of the wild-card spots in the American League.

With how things are shaking out, the Mariners will most likely be competing with the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, Indians, A's and Angels for two wild-card spots. The Red Sox lack pitching outside the duo of Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz, the Yankees can't stay healthy, the Indians lack pitching depth in general and the Orioles, A's and Angels all have their flaws as well, so why can't Seattle make a run?

Remember, nobody thought at any point that the Athletics had a shot in 2012, yet there they were at the end of the season sitting on top of the AL West. Seattle has the pieces to be able to make a run like that happen; it's just a matter of if and when they can put it all together.

Nate Diaz Excellent and Suspension: Did your Punishment Fit the Felony?

It's only a matter of your energy before the UFC acted. No reference to a Urban Dictionary or just what the slur means in Diaz's world would prevent the UFC from handing down getting some sort of punishment.

On Friday day time the promotion acted, suspending Diaz 90 days and fining him $20, 000. Your fine, according to the UFC's statement in the matter will be donated so that you can charity.

Let's get the suspension off the beaten track first because that's an effortless one to tackle. A 90-day suspension to get a fighter that last stepped in the Octagon on April 20 together with received a 60-day professional medical suspension following that battle is pretty toothless. It looks good on paper, but the reality can be that Diaz was more than likely not going to fight in the next 90 days and if he was it would be at the tail end of 90 days.

Now a fine, that's another report. $20, 000 for a fighter that taken in $15, 000 in his last fight is often a huge chunk of improve. If you don't agree, please keep in intellect that NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, who pulls down around $300, 000 a performance was fined $100, 000 for ones same slur in 2011. Diaz might notice that $20, 000 missing from his pay around Kobe missed his $100, 000.

Diaz may well not have meant the word to be a homophobic slur, but that doesn't excuse the truth that he used it. For a professional athlete he offers his employer, the UFC, an employer that is still fighting to create inroads in states the place that the sport is not suitable. The UFC doesn't need fighters handing ammunition to be able to its detractors, something Diaz would when he hit "send" upon that tweet.

Comparing the fine Diaz received to your one Bryant received; the punishment may very well be viewed as too severe. Don't think that's a misstep. The UFC needed to send a transparent message to all of its fighters: Step outside of the bounds of the rule of conduct and the punishment can be swift and severe.

The UFC has drawn a line in the sand with Diaz's okay and suspension; expect all fighters to take notice of the severity of this punishment.

For those of you that could say "worse things have been said in the past, " please don't employ that argument. Those were the old days, prior to the written code of conduct. That was before the UFC joined all of those other major professional sports in having a very code of conduct. The great old days are above, it's a brave " new world ", and missteps are going to cost fighters time and money.

Was Nate Diaz used for instance by the UFC? Likely, but someone had to serve being the fall guy. Let's hope other UFC roster took notice and that here is the last time we're all discussing ideas an easily avoidable state of affairs.

Nyc Jets Running Back Explanation: Complete Evaluation, Depth Graph or chart Analysis.

Competition will be the buzzword this summer in The big apple. Within the Jets company competition is everywhere both to the field and off from it. While the most layed out competition will inevitably become the one at quarterback, the most intense and a lot of intriguing one is a one at running rear.

After four years with the team, Shonn Greene may be allowed to leave and is now a Tennessee Titan. In his place are several starting quality running backside, each trying to break through in the NFL. Arguably all four consultants are more skilled as opposed to Greene, yet none advisors has a secure roster spot as of this time.

Chris Ivory is perhaps the most fascinating for the bunch. While he has ridden below the radar so far within his career, he has revealed flashes of brilliance that may imply that he offers the highest ceiling of some of them. In college with Washington State, he showed his high motor, sprinting for 534 yards concerning 5. 9 yards each and every carry.

Ivory spent others in the industry of his college vocation in Division II, causing him to travel undrafted. However, even in his rookie season inside the NFL he showed which he was ready to participate in. While injuries have ended up a frequent issue meant for him and his durability is actually questioned, his raw ability in addition to drive are what make him a very strong value and provide him such high likely.

Ivory came over within the Saints in a trade this offseason and may easily be viewed as being the overall favorite to acquire the starting job.

A former fourth-round pick in '09, Mike Goodson was snagged from the Jets in free agency this spring. After stints together with the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders, it seemed that Goodson was perhaps planning to get his opportunity to get started. That was before Pale yellow was acquired. Now Goodson will have to compete with Ivory besides the rest of the running backs relating to the roster.

To makes things more complicated, he was recently arrested on charges related to drug possession and possession of an firearm. Goodson remains on the team at the present time, but release, suspension or jail time are typically possible consequences that will continue him off the domain.

As arguably the the majority of durable and physically reliable back to the team, it had seemed exceedingly likely that Goodson would find a spot on this team and earn carries. Still, the recent arrest may well put a damper all in all situation.

A backup along with the Jets since he was drafted in 2010, Joe McKnight badly wants as a starter now that he is entering his fourth period. McKnight emphasized this to Mark Cannizzaro of NYPost. com, saying, "Words can't even describe how badly I would like to be that guy. I've got a benefit, a fire to me... When I'm out generally there practicing it's like I will be [ticked] off. I've reached play the game [ticked] off of. "

McKnight is a fast back and has excelled concerning yards per carry (6. 0 in 2012) inside his three previous years while using the Jets. However, his carries have been quite few with him sitting in back of Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell over the depth chart.

His abilities as a special teams player, which earned him a spot on the All-Pro organization in 2011, essentially promise him a roster identify barring unforeseen events. Still, if he finds himself in the No. 3 or Zero. 4 spot on this running back depth monitor, he will not observe many carries.

One thing we do know for sure is that McKnight is going to do whatever he can and keep his roster spot. Bigger been exceptionally vocal together with fiery this offseason. As he said themself (via Connor Orr in the Star-Ledger), "They're going of having to kill me to take my spot. So, whoever they generate, I don't care. inch

Since being drafted by way of the Jets in 2011, Powell is actually fighting for reps used and for carries around games.

At the end of the 2012 season, it would have been very reasonable to see Powell as the incumbent most loved to finally start the year of 2010. Especially once Greene was officially permitted to leave via free organization, Powell seemed to come to be almost a sure thing to begin the process, with him being more versatile and much more reliable than McKnight.

Along with the arrivals of Ivory and additionally Goodson, Powell's situation together with the team is now a leading question mark. If he falls so that you can third or fourth to the depth chart, it is conceivable that she could lose his roster identify entirely, since he isn't heavily used on extraordinary teams. However, one would hope which given the promise he's got shown so far with the team that they will find a way to remain him on the roster.

General manager John Idzik did his job by stacking the following year's roster with competent running backs. Now head coach Rex Thomas and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg will need to figure out the best way to use their overabundance involving backs.

There should not come to be one true winner with this competition, at least not necessarily by Week 1. The Jets have generally gone by having a running back by committee approach during the Rex Ryan era. Still, someone will have to take most of the snaps in Week 1.

Given evidence available right now, the clear favorite will have to be Ivory. He is just about the most explosive back on the team and is arguably the most trustworthy in pass protection.

Golf film on Ivory through the Saints, while limited, demonstrates a huge upside. As long as the crna can remain healthy (which is naturally an uncertainty), he has to be viewed as the favorite to win its competition this summer.

QPR 0-2 Stoke: Premier League fit report, response, photos...

The Potters striker is a substantial QPR lover. Effectively, at 6ft 7in, they donat come much greater. He also built his professional bow for the Hoops and has played under their present manager, Harry Redknapp, at Portsmouth, Southampton and Tottenham. So, given the naughty ways in which the football gods work, it absolutely was probably inevitable that he might return to haunt them. The former England guy won the very first target and won the fee for the second as Stoke won for only the second time in 15 games. TRAVELING HIGH... QPR's Andros Townsend shoots close The hapless Hoops stay second from bottom and 10 items from protection after their fifth match with no win. Following this defeat a home fan unravelled a banner, saying: aGod save QPRa. Not really He is able to make them now. To be fair to Redknapp, the writing was on the wall when he took over from Mark Hughes at the end of November a when the Ras were base of the table and still searching for their first category win of the season. QPR have improved under Redknapp but 20 points from 21 activities under his tenure haven't been enough to prevent their return to the Championship. CRUCIAL OEPNER... His strike is acknowledged by peter Crouch On this evidence it absolutely was not hard to see why both these clubs have fought this period. Harry may have been accepting the Potters but there is precious little miracle about. Redknapp built five improvements, including Rob Green replacing Julio Cesar in goal. Apparently, Cesar has made this season to 24 top-flight starts. And with Rangers confirming this week a A15million loan was recently taken out by them, it's no wonder the grapevine was buzzing with rumours he had been benched to be able to avoid an additional payment to his former club, Inter Milan. This was later rejected by QPR, who insisted Cesar had a minor straight back pressure. WALTER TORTURE... Jon Walters slots house his fee clincher to cement QPR's agony Green is normally guaranteed a wobble and he'd a scare when he very nearly spilled Jon Waltersa legislation shot into his net. Loic Remy had several early half-chances for Rangers without significantly troubling Asmir Begovic in the Stoke target. RANGERS chef displays what may have been and claims he actually thought he could have done work But the striker had the Potters owner scrambling across his purpose with simple shot that curled just wide of the goal in the 28th moment. Green indicated that he was alert following his earlier mistake by showing Peter Crouchas soaking volley away for a large part before Begovic parried Jose Bosingwaas 32nd-minute free-kick. Tubby Taarabt seemed as if he was playing for herself a and eating for everyone. He must be the only person in the Prem to put on weight through the period. ROME COMFORTS... Cameron Jerome helps Jon Walters observe on the Richter Scale when he was brought down by Robert Huth midway through the first half it listed 6.3. And, yes, I know: container, pot, dark. The Moroccan thought he had earned his group a fee in the 37th minute but TV replays showed that, despite falling inside the area, Glenn Whelan really tripped him outside it. Still, at the very least the groundsman will not need to throw that area of the frequency this week. Excellent Marc Wilson sent the ball upfield for Christopher Samba was outstripped by Cameron Jerome, who as he got to the byline. Jerome pulled the ball straight back for his attack companion Crouch, who came in the field ahead of Clint Hill to fire in an attempt which Green got a hand to but could not keep out. It was only Crouchas second purpose in 27 games. Samba tried to create amends with a shot that bounced only wide. But Rangersa cause wasn't served when Andros Townsend picked up a hamstring injury at the conclusion of the initial half and had to be replaced by Jamie Mackie. Worse was to check out when Taarabt went off wounded 11 minutes following the break. But QPR started the next half better, with Begovic doing well to help keep out a Remy shot and a Samba header. Yet only once you started to genuinely believe that Rangers could easily get back to the overall game, their odds of grabbing a position a and probably beating the decline a' vanished as Stoke were given a 75th-minute fee. Ref Chris Foy pointed to the spot after Crouch was hauled straight back by Hill. Walters broke his first spot-kick past Green before Foy created him retake it. But Walters kept his nerve again and placed his 2nd effort to the bottom corner. QPR: Green, Bosingwa, Hill, Samba, Ben Haim, Mbia, Derry, Townsend (Mackie 46), Taarabt (Bothroyd 56), Remy, Hoilett. S.A. Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors: Game 6 Preview, Schedule and Predictions

In a matter of a couple days, the San Antonio Spurs went from a staggering Game 4 meltdown to a convincing Game 5 rout against the Golden State Warriors.

Tony Parker's 25 points and 10 dimes fueled San Antonio's relentless attack, as 11 different Spurs found the bucket.

Golden State's stars weren't so fortunate: Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined to shoot 6-of-22, and no one could stop Parker defensively.

Throughout the season and into the playoffs, the Golden State Warriors had feasted off the exploits of Curry and Thompson, while role players Harrison Barnes and Jarrett Jack played a peripheral role.

His matchup against Tony Parker yielded a host of mid-range and post-up opportunities, as well as the intermittent triple. Unfortunately, the Warriors are going to have a tough time winning this series if Barnes is their highest scorer from here on out.

That's where Curry and Thompson come in. They must find their rhythm and, more importantly, find each other. Stephen's ankle health could be the X-factor here.

With 20.3 points and 7.6 assists per contest, he's constantly challenging the Warriors as a dual-threat playmaker. No guard in the NBA can get into the paint and cause mayhem like he can.

Parker's most recent masterpiece was a high-scoring, productively facilitating Game 5 that systematically broke Golden State down and sparked a San Antonio offensive barrage.

When he's roaming freely, making sound decisions and knocking down jumpers, the Spurs are a difficult unit to defend for four quarters. His effectiveness and accuracy on the road will heavily influence Game 6's outcome.

Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry (PG), Klay Thompson (SG), Harrison Barnes (SF), Festus Ezeli (PF), Andrew Bogut (C)

Out of the Spurs' three wins in this series, only two of them were convincing expositions worthy of Gregg Popovich's stamps of approval.

Both of those contests featured two important results: an upper hand in the points-in-the-paint margin, and 50-plus percent shooting.

It's not just about Parker advancing the ball for early offense or Duncan operating in the post. Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green thrived in transition for easy buckets, while Manu Ginobili and Boris Diaw exposed holes in Golden State's half-court defense.

Back in Oracle Arena, the Warriors are more likely to deliver a sound defensive outing and use the atmosphere to fuel their possession-by-possession effort.

However, it's not that simple. They do need to take better care of the ball, unlike Game 5 (18 turnovers). That will limit San Antonio's transition chances and early-offense opportunities.

A scarcity of turnovers and protection of the paint takes care of one half of the equation, but what about the inconsistent offense?

The bottom line is the Dubs need a superstar-caliber demonstration from Curry, whose ankle will dictate whether he'll bounce back from a nine-point night in Game 5.

It doesn't need to be a ridiculous shooting spree or instant-classic onslaught. They just want him to shoot at an efficient rate in both halves while distributing the ball to guys like Andrew Bogut, Carl Landry and Thompson.

It's going to stay that way in Game 6, as it's the Warriors' turn to assert their game plan and make winning plays down the stretch.

You can bet the Splash Brothers will awaken from their recent slumber, and when they hit a lull, Mark Jackson can turn to his newfound stars Jack and Barnes.

An improved defensive front will make scoring a tough task for San Antonio in the second half, and steady production from all five Dubs starters will force a Game 7.

Manchester City hope Roberto Mancini's new Manuel Pellegrini will... -- Telegraph. co. uk.

Your Manchester City director of football has become watching the Chilean coach closely since at smallest 2006 when his Villarreal side were so nearly Barcelona's opponents in that year's Champions League very last.

They lost to Arsenal inside semi-finals but refused to shuffle into the shadows. Two months later, Barcelona, where Begiristain was sporting director, were now looking up rather than over their shoulders with Pellegrini's team as your partner's first European creation previously had the audacity to finish higher than them in the dinner table.

They were a humble but successful copy of Barcelona, from the possession-based football to a incredibly productive youth program. To say Pellegrini held everthing together is no overstatement. He left last season and, six coaches down the road, Villarreal are now within the second division.

"The priority is constantly possession, " he said during that five-year spell at your club. "No amount of spirit can cope with having to forever follow the ball. "

He described Villarreal's footballing as a fusion of the finest of South American along with European and oversaw that club's school of excellence, which was the be jealous of of everyone bar Begiristain's Barça.

When he turned up at Villarreal – a good one-hotel town that literally isn't on most maps of The country of spain in 2004 – a youth academy had come a long way since the Roig family took control within the club in 1997.

It also needed an alchemist in order to apply the finishing touches – you to definitely ensure the promising youngsters filing in the Ciudad Deportiva every morning would play exactly the identical way as the primary team.

The dream was self-sufficiency and additionally Pellegrini so nearly made it a reality. 'Villarreal B', effectively the club's youth company, won promotion to Spain's second division in 2009 – some achievement considering they came into existence only in 1999. Cost-free string began to captivate scouts from all around Europe and home-grown competitors made the step-up on the first team or created careers elsewhere.

When finalized, Manchester City's new 80-acre, £100million, 17-pitch training complex complete with live-in youth academy is a far cry from Villarreal's low production line; and Pellegrini's remit aren't going to be to oversee its jogging, but his experience of the system, and his commitment to your philosophy – the idea that a membership should produce its players and not just feed off other clubs – has helped to convince Begiristain that Pellegrini could be the perfect fit. The football his teams play can have helped too.

Santi Cazorla, who came up with Villarreal B and within the first team via your season at Recreativo, managed to graduate under Pellegrini to entire international honours and a proceed to Arsenal.

Current Malaga midfielder Isco is actually another typical Pellegrini participant, comfortable receiving the ball in any situation, skilful enough to show either way on also foot, away from hassle and into space.

By having a £30? million buy-out clause that might possibly not have to be met fully, given Malaga's financial malaise, one is likely follow his coach with the Etihad.

Yesterday the most effective concern over Pellegrini's imminent arrival among Manchester City fans have also been the year he put in at Real Madrid receiving nothing with the a large number of expensively assembled team around La Liga history.

But Begiristain's knowledge of how easy it is to fail at the Santiago Bernabéu means that season barely registers in his weighted criteria.

Pellegrini had no input into signings; club veterans Guti together with Raul undermined his guru, Cristiano Ronaldo was hurt for six weeks; and additionally Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder were sold don't mind the occasional Chilean's request to always keep them.

More importantly, any time Manchester City model on their own on anybody, it is actually Barcelona, not Real This town. Pellegrini's years of basically beating Begiristain's Barça at their own game looks to have earned him his Highly regarded League chance.

WWE Excessive Rules 2013 Predictions: Digesting Each Title Match.

The 2013 edition within the WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view is a few hours away, and the excitement around the card highlighted by a few marquee title matches has the fans ready for Sunday's action.

Not only is the WWE Championship on the line—a main-event bout relating to John Cena and Ryback—the licence plate team straps and the u . s title are also visiting be contested Sunday event.

All of the subsequent title matches are appointed for Extreme Rules and often will help make this possibly the best cards of the 365 days. Wrestling fans will love this particular show.

Inside most anticipated match of the night, defending champion John Cena could put his belt on the line against Ryback in a final man standing match.

While Cena is celebrated for his resilience in these kind of matches—just ask the a wide selection of superstars that have gotten victim to his unwillingness to sleep in down—the Achilles injury that WWE has been playing up has produced legitimate doubt.

Ryback is doing much better in the ring and in the mic, and while beating Cena clean would redeem each one of his previous PPV cuts, that is something a WWE has proven it won't do regularly.

Whether it's The Shield or another individual, this match will conclusion with both men can't make the 10-count plus the match will end in a very draw.

Team Hell No are probably the most successful tag teams within the last decade, but their reign over the division is likely going to end as they adopt The Shield's Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in the tornado tag team match for ones straps.

Daniel Bryan and Kane have been completely better than advertised during the last several months, but the chance to put over two for the brightest young stars with the company is something the WWE can't give.

Along with Dean Ambrose profitable the U. S. identify against Kingston, Sunday's PPV will mark the start of The Shield's hunt for ones championship gold in a WWE.

Ambrose has years of experience over the indy scene as one of the best workers in the bosses, and with Kingston's high-flying style, this is a ideal matchup of contrasting styles that can work perfectly together.

There is little doubt that your WWE will do everything in its power to make the face look strong from this match, but with much bigger plans for any Shield going forward, there is little doubt that Ambrose walks out of Extreme Rules the innovative U. S champ.

Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks: Game 5 Score, Highlights and Analysis

The New York Knicks hosted Game 5 at Madison Square Garden staring elimination in the face. With the Indiana Pacers taking care of business in Game 4, they held a commanding 3-1 series lead as the Knicks hoped to reverse their fortunes.

New York turned in a solid effort with a wire-to-wire 85-75 victory. The Pacers wouldn't go quietly, but the Knicks' defense remained stout, holding Indiana to 36 percent shooting. Now they just need to play like that in the next two games.

Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-28 shooting, and Paul George dropped a team-high 23 points for Indy.

Pacers point guard George Hill sat out due to a concussion sustained in Game 4 (per NBA.com), and he still scored a game-high 26 points in that win for the Pacers. On Thursday, D.J. Augustin started in his place, but it's hard to replace Hill's postseason averages of 16 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Augustin finished with 12 points on 3-of-9 from the field.

Both teams trudged through an ugly first quarter, with the Knicks shooting 30 percent and the Pacers shooting just 27 percent. Indy even struggled from the line, going 2-of-6.

J.R. Smith—who has been ice-cold over his past six games, shooting 26-of-91 (28.6 percent)—turned in a strong first half, going 3-of-5 from the field for nine points with four rebounds, a steal and a block. And that block came on a beautifully athletic play to stuff a layup attempt by Augustin.

After two cagey quarters, the Knicks held a 40-34 lead, and Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 15 points. David West tallied 11 points and six boards by the half to lead the achy Pacers. On the downside, Pacers starters Paul George, Roy Hibbert and Lance Stephenson combined to shoot 3-of-16 in the half.

Tyson Chandler and Hibbert each picked up their fourth fouls in the third quarter, leading to a run of small ball on both sides. Chris Copeland and Pablo Prigioni proved effective as the Knicks stretched their lead to double digits. Copeland finished with 13 points, four boards and two steals.

But Paul George also began to percolate in the second half, as the pace trended to more of a track meet than the grappling of the first half. Two quick fouls made it five on George with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. While he did not foul out, he did play some matador defense down the stretch.

Poor free-throw shooting killed the Pacers all game long, even though they got to the line with much more regularity than New York. Indy missed 14 free throws and shot just 58 percent from the charity stripe; the Knicks missed only three foul shots. And the Pacers also shot themselves in the foot by coughing up 18 turnovers, including several down the stretch.

Raymond Felton struggled from the field early but still scored a dozen points. He also racked up four offensive boards and three steals as he turned in a fine second half, powering the Knicks down the stretch. Amar'e Stoudemire was a non-factor for the Knicks, and Iman Shumpert continued to struggle from the field.

The Knicks played with determination and pugnacity. They forced numerous jump balls on defense and harassed the Pacers all night. And it was precisely that defense that kept them leading for the entire game.

Now the question becomes whether they can transfer that intensity to the hostile environment at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Marc Berman of the New York Post lamented the continued failure of Jason Kidd to score points in these playoffs. Kidd's contested layup rolled around half of the rim before falling off the back iron.

Knicks blogger Jonah Kaner noted the apparent leg injury suffered by Pacers forward David West in the first quarter, and Knicks fans welcomed the news in their replies.

ESPN's Bomani Jones was one of many to note Tyson Chandler's hard foul on Lance Stephenson, who tried to climb the ladder on last year's Defensive Player of the Year and failed spectacularly.

ESPN radio host Dave Rothenberg observed the dual boneheaded plays that took place in the final three seconds of the first half. Tyson Chandler picked up his third foul going for a steal; not to be outdone, Sam Young fouled J.R. Smith on a three-point attempt with less than a second remaining.

The Twitter account for the show Numbers Never Lie derided the Knicks' anemic backcourt scoring, as the starting guards shot just 1-of-5 from the field in the first half.

But that silly foul on Chandler at the end of the second quarter came back to haunt him, as he picked up a fourth foul early in the third quarter on a confusing sequence (via Chris Herring, Wall Street Journal).

The parody account that personifies Mike Woodson's fantastic facial hair noted the promising occurrence of Hibbert picking up his fourth foul shortly after Chandler got his.

Chris Copeland got some minutes from Mike Woodson and some love from the Knicks' official Twitter account for his effective play in the second half.

Whoever takes the series faces a daunting date with the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals. Miami is coming off of a hard-fought series against the Chicago Bulls, and the health of Dwyane Wade remains in some doubt.

But they still have LeBron James, who can beat any defense in myriad ways. But in the postseason, you just have to take things one game at a time.

The Knicks will continue to try to climb out of the hole they dug, but a three-game winning streak is not out of the question if they play defense like they did in Game 5.

Worst Flop Of The NBA Playoffs So Far? I Think We Have A Winner

First, let's just establish that a flop in basketball is not always a bad thing. Sometimes you really do get fouled, and in all the commotion the ref doesn't always see it. So any exaggerated body move you can make to bring attention to that legitimate foul is to your and your team's advantage. And the whole idea is to win, right?

OK, it's not the whole idea. A person blessed with enormous athletic gifts should also honor the game. So when you get hit with incidental or legal contact, or no contact at all, flopping is a very uncool move, and we wag our index finger in the flopper's general direction (your exact finger may vary).

Here's the Pacers' Sam Young, who got clipped with a Carmelo Anthony elbow during their playoff game. Incidental, IMO. But Young is probably aware that actress Olivia Wilde (Cowboys & Aliens, Tron: Legacy) is sitting right there in the front row (she's in the red, with her hands covering her mouth), and wants to show off his acting skills.

Bad, bad flop. Ten demerits. Fifty points deducted from House Gryffindor. Credit rating lowered to 420. Double secret probation. No soup for you: banned, one year.

Of course our flopping technology is about two decades behind that of European soccer. But give us time and we'll catch up.

Bryan Caraway Describes Anti-Drug Stance.

On Wednesday, the UFC bantamweight learned yet be receiving a $65, 000 "Submission for the Night" bonus for your partner's victory over Johnny Bedford at UFC 159. The bonus was originally awarded to help lightweight Pat Healy, but after the former Strikeforce title competitor tested positive for bud in his post-fight drug test, "Bam Bam" was suspended for ninety days and stripped of their additional earnings.

Therefore, the UFC passed the fight night bonus be sure that to Caraway, who had the sole other submission victory on the card. The sudden turn from luck was undoubtedly a bright spot to your 28-year-old, but the wonderful vibes wouldn't last longer.

The Washington native chatted to  MMA Junkie  around receiving the bonus funds. This is where items went south. Rather than keeping the give attention to the bonus, Caraway veered off into a diatribe on his disapproval for marijuana and also the people who use the drug.

"Kid Lightning's" comments relating to the topic immediately ruffled feathers over the MMA community, causing one fighter especially (Nate Diaz), to lash out which has a response of his very own.

While Diaz's remarks established an uproar and evoked a suspension through the UFC, Caraway also took to Twitter to advance explain his stance on the drug issue.

From their post on Twitter, seems like Caraway has some personal experience along with the negative effects of meds use. While this experience is old, it was obviously a factor that has impacted his life and those close to him.

That being said, we very much are now living a "to each their own" world right now. There is certainly not a thing wrong with Caraway personally disapproving with the drug or its usage, but as soon because you start pointing fingers and using labels to go into detail the people who thought we would do a certain item, then you are using a judgmental position.

Whether Caraway was trying to get across a larger principles isn't quite clear. But in the reaction his comments captivated on Twitter, it is clear that his opinion on the matter wasn't well acquired.

Yet, Florian has been against TRT for a short time and believes that while it may help a mma star in training camp, it will not mean much come attack night.

"It's something that's beneficial with regards to your recovery goes plus your ability to get reps in every day, " he said. "Every hour is necessary and beneficial. So in my situation, I'm not a big fan than it. I've spoken about that up to now. But it's part for the sport, and it still comes down to the technical amount of the fighters. "

TRT has developed into main focal point planning into this weekend's UFC on FX 8 event. Luke Rockhold probably will make his UFC debut with perennial title challenger Vitor Belfort, and Rockhold hasn't held when discussing Belfort's use from TRT.

I agree with Florian to a certain extent. TRT will help fighters within their workouts but overall skill definitely plays a task once the cage door closes. However, the advantage prior to the fight as considerably as physical condition is a deciding factor in a close match-up.

Ultimately TRT is here now to stay until the UFC takes action whether fans prefer it or not. It will continue to be a cloud that hangs over a fighters head who takes advantage of it, but only time will tell on how fans will look back in the careers of men who may have taken it.

Europa Category Final Tactical Review: Chelsea 2-1 Benfica.

With Eden Hazard left out through injury and Victor Moses not fit to start, Chelsea began this blog with Ramires on the right hand side and Oscar on the left. Frank Lampard and David Luiz used the central midfield postures, with Juan Mata operating as the advanced midfielder.

Benfica left Pablo Aimar on the bench, but began which has a very dangerous looking top three of Oscar Cardozo, Salvio along with Nico Gaitan. At a corner for them, the pacey, powerful set of Luisao and Ezequiel Garay were tasked with coping with Fernando Torres.

To say it required Chelsea a while set off would be generous. They never really looked settled within their positions, which was probably into too many players using in relatively unfavoured positions. Unfortunately for Rafael Benitez, i thought this was telling in the beginning stages.

Ramires, in specified, looked lost in your partner's right midfield berth. He was caught out constantly by the clever movement of Gaitan together with failed to offer any variety of sustained cover to Cesar Azpilicueta.

David Luiz and Frank Lampard did not look at ease as well. In the 4-2-3-1 system, the understanding between the two sitting midfielders is paramount to all of those other team being able to function. But Luiz and Lampard never really looked on a single wavelength, with both having looked much more comfortable with a more defensively minded player adjacent to them.

The duo were often past the boundary apart and indisciplined in their defensive positioning. As an effect, Benfica played around with these ease.

Nico Gaitan and Salvio got also had lots of joy in wide zones. Attacking on the in the garden or inside, both looked a real threat as Chelsea struggled to take care of any shape. Gaitan especially was continually floating within the space behind Luiz and in to do so, dragging Ramires into certainly no mans land.

This is turn opened up space down the left flank with the forward bursts of Melgarejo. This caused Chelsea no terminate of problems. It wasn't for some poor finishing and some timely slips, Benfica has been out of sight.

Benitez, usually an awfully reactive tactician, initially do little to stem a waves of Benfica attacks. Chelsea were becoming desperate in their defending and giving gone numerous free-kicks in damaging areas.

Juan Mata was not really willing to fall in and help block the middle off. He played as more of an second striker, often absorbing positions beyond Torres. Resultantly, Luiz and Lampard were continually outnumbered just by Benfica's central trio, exactly who pressed quickly when Chelsea ended up being in possession.

This required that whilst Mata has been regularly in space, Luiz and Lampard did not find him in any sort of real threatening areas. Chelsea were penned in through the Benfica pressure and thus, started to take a lot more direct approach.

Chelsea started to travel direct to Torres in need of an outlet. The Spaniard held that ball up well and allowed Chelsea to produce from the right approach, as the English facet looked to exploit the room left by the attacking runs of Melgarejo.

It's only really ten units before half-time that Chelsea had a sustained spell associated with possession, which again started coming from Torres bringing others right into play after controlling a protracted pass. Lampard worked an opening relating to the edge of the box which forced a superb save from Artur. I thought this was Chelsea's only real opportunity on the frustrating half.

Benfica came released looking strong after 50 percent time, whereas Chelsea continued to consider Torres early. The Spanish front-man battled well with the imposing Luisao, spinning in behind him a few times and springing a number of dangerous attacks.

It was this direct tactic that brought Chelsea their cracking open goal. Torres turned Garay easily on the halfway line before bursting in the middle and finishing along with exceptional composure.

The goal gave Chelsea a giant lift. They looked sharper, quicker and more significantly more confident in their participate in. But as with Chelsea's goal, Benfica also netted resistant to the run of play.

Within Benfica's first real fighting foray after conceding, Azpilicueta conceded a good penalty and Cardozo, for the reason that he often does, sent with consummate ease.

The latter stages started to be rather scrappy, Benfica made two changes prior to their equalizer and despite getting back on grade terms, never really appeared as settled in ownership. Perhaps of most significance, Ola John came on to play off the left-hand edge, with Gaitan reverting to help left-back. The equalizer came too early for them, as they simply were left to play thirty minutes of the game using a team lopsided with attacking players.

Ramires and Azpilicueta looked much more comfortable defending against John's direct style as opposed to the Gaitan's subtle mobility. As a result, Chelsea could actually pin back Benfica all the way down their left-hand side plus the Portuguese outfit's main attacking source suddenly became some defensive concern.

Suddenly it was Benfica who has several square pegs in round of golf holes. Chelsea's players, in comparison, grew into their roles as the game wore on.

The Paraguayan managed to fashion a few half chances, but Chelsea looked relatively at ease with this approach. The English side were around happy to sit full and hit Benfica in the break through the tempo of Ramires and Torres.

The former in particular had a lot more joy getting at makeshift left-back Gaitan as Mata almost played him in a couple of times. Eventually, it was his strenuous slalom forward in stoppage time that earned Chelsea the corner that they won the game.

A result that was perhaps harsh on Benfica, as they played the better football and had the greater chances throughout the competition.

But in Rafael Benitez along with Fernando Torres, Chelsea have two figures which were primed for performing in European football. For each one of Torres's troubles this months, he has been excellent inside Europa League. His finish in the final showcased the type of composure Benfica lacked.

It is worth observing that Benitez failed to manufacture a single substitution throughout the length of the contest. Maybe this was done with extra-time in mind, but it also helped those players operating in unfamiliar roles to get acclimatized to their setting.

This was clearly the case, for as the game creeped within the latter stages, Chelsea always looked the most likely to nick a victor.

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum's Bob Kendrick Talks About Historic Impact

Tucked onto the corner of 18th and Vine Streets in Kansas City, Missouri sits one of the more culturally significant museums in the United States.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) tells the story of how these segregated leagues evolved from creation until eventually being fully integrated with Major League Baseball.

Podcast to be Named Later had the privilege Monday afternoon to interview NLBM President Bob Kendrick about the museum, the Negro Leagues themselves, pioneers such as Jackie Robinson and Buck O'Neil, along with the legacy and stories that still mean so much today.

The foremost impression you get from hearing Kendrick speak is his obvious pride. From the first question forward, you discover the smile on his face when all you hear are words.

Kansas City was the birthplace of the modern Negro Leagues. Rube Foster, an extraordinary pitcher in his own right, organized the Negro National League a block and a half away from the museum in 1920 at a local YMCA. His story could (and should) come right out of Hollywood.

"He did everything. A great player, great manager and a great owner. And—believe it or not—he died in an insane asylum.

Kansas City was also home to the Monarchs. Their most famous player—among Satchel Paige, Cool Papa Bell and Ernie Banks—was Robinson, of course, who played his rookie season there in 1945.

The stars of the recent movie "42," including Harrison Ford (Branch Rickey) and Chadwick Boseman (Robinson), put on a fundraising screening in Kansas City that drew over 1,400 viewers.

"We could not be happier to see the film be so successful at the box office. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the folks at Legendary Films and Warner Brothers…for making this epic opportunity happen for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum."

Twelve life-sized statues adorn this field and are positioned as if they were playing a game of baseball but, as Kendrick explains, reaching it is not easy.

"You have to earn that right and you do so by learning their story. By the time you bear witness to everything they endured to play baseball in this country, the very last thing that happens is now you can take the field. In many respects, you are now deemed worthy to take the field with 10 of the greatest baseball players to have ever lived."

Instead of the usual ballpark attire, fans dressed in formal clothing like they did for after-church doubleheaders generations before.

Not only was there an overwhelming response, other clubs with rich Negro Leagues heritage such as Washington and New York are considering such events in the future.

Podcast to Be Named Later was privileged to speak with Bob Kendrick. Listen to the interview here or by visiting the website. Enjoy.

Who Is the Best Scorer in the EPL Right Now?

Defense wins championships, according to the old sports cliche, but while that might or might not be true, scoring goals is the only way to win games.

Enter the goalscorer, the most glamorous, most famous and often most generously compensated of footballers. FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo are without doubt the two most prolific goalscorers in the world right now, but today the subject is their Premier League counterparts.

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge scored a hat-trick at the weekend, and that might make him the league's hottest goalscorer at the moment. But the title of Premier League's best goalscorer must go to one of two players: Manchester United's Robin van Persie or Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

Van Persie leads the Premier League with 25 goals this season and is on course to finish as the division's top scorer for the second straight season (30 last year with Arsenal). Suarez is two behind but won't have another chance to play this season due to suspension.

Which one is better? Who is more instinctive? Who has the better first touch? In the clip above, B/R World Football Lead Writers Michael Cummings and Will Tidey discuss the subject. After watching the video, be sure to add your thoughts in the comments below.

The reason why Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce Decision Will Define the following Decade.

At least that's been the case the past decade and a half. Envisioning a Celtics squad without To be honest almost unimaginable.

While Pierce is determined to enter the previous year of his agreement, only $5 million associated with his $15. 3 million salary is guaranteed. The team has until July 1 to generate a decision on the problem.

Could we have experienced Pierce's last game in a very Celtics uniform? According to help you Boston sideline reporter Greg Dickerson, that's an exceptionally real possibility.

It would mark an unfortunate all around an era for one of the better players in the Celtics' illustrious historical past.

Since being drafted 10th overall through the team in 1998, Pierce provides led Boston in scoring for 13 of his 14 seasons. He as well holds various franchise records, as well as generating several NBA awards and honors over his position. But most importantly, the 35-year-old played a vital role in delivering the Celtics their league-leading 17th NBA title in 2008—Pierce was named Finals MVP with regard to his efforts.

Although Pierce create a rather successful 2012-13 season—18. 6 points, 6. 3 rebounds along with 4. 8 assists per game—he's shown signs of conking out. He only shot 43. 6 percent in the field.

With Jeff Green primed to step inside Pierce's shoes, can a team really afford shelling out an aging veteran $15 , 000, 000?

With the Boston celtics flailing, paired with the losing of Rajon Rondo, the team desired interest in Pierce during the NBA trade deadline funding February. Several options sprang up, but none were up to scratch for Ainge to move the trigger.

Sure, it's hard to imagine seeing the Celtics send out off their captain to another team. But at once, it's a move that makes lots of sense.

With a exchange, Boston could get a bit cap relief, while bringing in some players who could address most of the roster issues. On the other hand, another team would receive a highly trained veteran who could help push an "on the verge" team towards a contender. Plus, Pierce has revealed that he can still pour it in—he averaged 21. 2 points per sport over six contests about the New York Knicks with this year's first-round series.

From this particular case that arises while using the team needing to keep Pierce at night July 1 deadline. That will require the Celtics to make sure the full amount with his contract. It's a hardcore situation, especially with the team not sure the amount it can get in return for Pierce.

Pretty much, if Boston trades Pierce, the team should be prepared to part ways with Garnett as well. That's because back inside February, the 36-year-old reportedly said he would waive his no-trade terms if Pierce was traded in. (via Sports on World's Shaun Powell)

Depending in the trade, this move may likely put the Celtics straight into rebuilding mode for at a minimum a season or several.

If Ainge chooses this choice, Boston would be in a position to release Pierce before your July 1 deadline. This would also ensure that that team only pays the $5 million for the salary that is secured, leaving them with somewhat more than $10 million to play around with over the summer. As far as cost-free agency goes, the Celtics might have their full mid-level exception ($5. 15 million) plus the bi-annual exception ($2. 02 million).

While it would be nice to open in place these exceptions, it doesn't always assurance that the team will get a good return. One only has looking at Boston's offseason pickups last season as an example.

So is it worthy of the risk to lose off a veteran scorer that's a guaranteed 16-5-4 guy when the chance that there are a free agent who could credit card debt?

To make matters even more serious, as stated earlier, this can also likely result in Garnett walking away. May be via retirement or simply by waiving his no-trade clause and requesting a deal.

Garnett will be 37 next season. At now in his career, however only come back in the event that he felt like he was playing for the team that could compete. Without Pierce, Boston isn't that team.

Bigger proven that he will still produce and this loyalty should grant him the chance to finish out his career for a Celtic. No one can argue that Pierce doesn't need it.

However, at once, keeping Pierce would give Boston little to no room to undertake anything else. The team would most likely have to shed a person or two just to accommodate signing a draft go with.

Is the same roster that assembled a 41-40 regular-season record, claimed the seventh seed inside the Eastern Conference and made a first-round exit well worth keeping together?

That's because what the Celtics did this coming year was admirable. Battling with several key injuries, the team still rebounding and fought till stomach muscles will better end.

One can only think about what this roster shall be like with another year of experience along with the healthy returns of the two Rondo and Jared Sullinger.

In this scenario, Garnett would possibly produce a return to have additional go at the top prize. If he doesn't, Boston will have round $10 million free to enhance their already depleted detail at center.

But hey, he made it happen once when Garnett and Ray Allen found its way to 2007. Who says he wouldn't repeat the process?

Regardless of whether Pierce continues to be, is released or dealt with, it's no surprise that this decision will significantly alter the head of the franchise.

For 14 years that Celtics have relied on him to obtain them through the good and bad. Without him, the team wouldn't maintain the place it is at this moment.

The work ethic, dedication and talent that Pierce brought to Boston is a trait all your other 29 teams in a league would die for. It's something the team and it is fans will never neglect.

If he leaves, be thankful for everything he's done for ones Celtics during his occupation. If he doesn't, let's hope Pierce can allow himself the opportunity to ride off in the sunset.
